Rescued South African Miners – A Lesson In Safety

As we’re sure many of you have heard by now, this last month, on February 22, nearly 500 miners were trapped underground after a fire broke out in a South African gold mine. However, due to the safety training that they had received and because of their compliance and observance of safety standards and their training, despite some of the miners being trapped at a depth of 3.5 kilometers, all 486 miners were safely rescued.

As we read about the accident and subsequent rescue as a company, it reinforced to us how important it is to be up-to-date on safety training and standards and to always be prepared in case of an emergency.

In order to read more about mining safety standards, we would encourage everyone to take a look at the official MSHA site.
