Shale Support Services – Frac Sand Drying & Sorting

Reliable Controls was contracted to provide control systems engineering for a new facility to dry, sort, store and deliver sand used in the hydraulic fracturing process.

When Reliable Controls initially met with the client, they presented drawing reviews but had more ideas that needed development. RCC had one month to program PLC & HMI, as well as perform the factory acceptance test, which proved to be successful. Mike Sawka served as commissioning manager and the RCC team moved the project forward under tight time lines. RCC designed a state-of-the-art iPad application to control the motorized downspout that delivers the sand into the trucks.

Reliable Controls provided:

Review of Motor Control Center.
Review of Electrical and P&ID Drawings.
Development of Control Narratives & Cause & Effect Matrix.
PLC programming using Allen Bradley ControLogix.
HMI configuration using FactoryTalk View.
Design of the communications network, including hard wire Ethernet and wireless.
FAT testing.
Development of mobile application using MySCADA for the iPad.
Pre-operational testing, Start-up and Commissioning.

Mike and the RCC team completed the project with a quick turn-around, going from drawing reviews, to an entire design, to programming and testing in just two months. The project results were extremely positive and the client is satisfied with the quick and thorough job RCC accomplished. Thank you to Mike and his hard-working team!
