Copper Mine Sulfur Burner
The sulfur burning plant at the Dos Pobres Copper Mine in Safford, Arizona produces sulfuric acid, which is required in copper recovery from raw ore. The mine had been receiving all of its sulfuric acid by truck, and with the construction of the new plant, the mine significantly reduced the amount of acid trucked in. The design capacity of the plant is 1350 STPD.
Reliable Controls was contracted through Aker Solutions to provide control systems engineering for the sulfur burning plant.
Reliable Controls services included:
Control system design in Control Logix
Development of operator screens in Rockwell FactoryTalk View, configured to client standards,
Designed and programmed process and equipment controls
Configuration of communication layers including Ethernet, ControlNET, DeviceNET and FieldBus for remote I/O
Development of the control system programming and configuration required for the facility including the development of specifications, control system design, programming and configuration, and factory acceptance test
Functionality Acceptance Testing
Commissioning and start-up
The facility went to 100%+ capacity within one week of operation. This is due to a sound control system design and implementation, detailed pre-commissioning, and a safe execution of commissioning and start-up. The client was very satisfied with Reliable Controls approach and execution for this project. Great Job and congratulations to the RCC team on another successful project!
