Barrick Gold – Bald Mountain Mine

The Bald Mountain mine is an open-pit, heap leach gold mine located in the Southern Ruby Mountains of northeastern Nevada, about halfway between the towns of Elko and Ely. The mine utilizes conventional heap leaching technology and carbon absorption for ore treatment. SNC Lavalin contracted with Reliable Controls Corporation to provide programming and commissioning services for the Bald Mountain mine.

For this project, Reliable Controls Corporation provided the following services:

Full programming and configuration of operator work stations (HMI)
Programming and configuration of Process Control Systems
Communications
Factory acceptance testing
Full system documentation
On-site calibration and commissioning services

One of the unique aspects of this project was the development by Reliable Controls Corporation engineers of HMI operator screens that were trend-based and information-based, which provide the operators with a tool to anticipate potential problems (alarms) before problems occur, allowing the operator to proactively take corrective action. The HMI screens were designed in grayscale, providing a clean operator interface. Reliable Controls Corporations unique engineering work methods and approach resulted in a project that was completed on time and provided value to our client.
